Legacy
When John Allison purchased the land in 1947, the nearest grocery store was 12 miles away. The property had been home to three dairy farms. John converted one of the barns – said to be the oldest in Colorado – for raising thoroughbred racehorses, which he purchased in Ireland.
John built the ponds fed by Black Squirrel Creek, naming them after his daughters: Frances, Mildred, Ann, and Mary. Three generations of Allison’s learned to swim and fish in those ponds. The family raised trout and grew their own vegetables, enjoying many outdoor family suppers beside “Lake Ann.”
The Allison family enjoyed 70 years of happiness under the watchful gaze of Pikes Peak. In 2003, the children and grandchildren of John Allison found a development partner to help them open a new chapter in The Farm’s history. It is their dream that The Farm will be to you what it was for them: the best thing their family ever did.
